James Barry lived in Buxton, North Dakota, in the early 1900's. Buxton, though a small town, was a busy stopover point for the Northern Pacific Railroad. James Barry (on the right) did work for the railroad for a short time before moving his young family to Duluth, Minnesota, in 1928 to find work at the US Steel Plant that was located there at the time. Those were hard times just before the 1929 Market Crash.
In Buxton at the time, his brother George owned the Barry Hotel, which housed many railroad executives passing through, riding on the rail lines. James also provided fresh wild game for the hotel's popular restaurant before moving to Duluth.
